They also describe rabbits as “particularly useful” for skin and eye tests. Across the world, rabbits are still used in the 70-year old Draize Eye Irritancy test, due to their large eyes, low cost and availability. Despite that the Draize test has been shown to be unreliable and advanced scientific replacements tests are available, it remains listed as a model for eye irritation.
